Taking care of your new puppy.
Taking care of your new puppy. Items you’ll need for your puppy to come home We include a puppy pack to go home with all our puppies. This will include the food your puppy is currently eating, a few blankets with mom and litter mates scent to make the transition easier, a collar and leash, and a couple of small toys. We recommend having a crate at home ready to go. This is both a safe space for puppy and a help in potty training for you, especially when your not home or at night. Leaving a collar on your pup when in the crate can be a safety hazard so please be cautious of this. Food and water bowls.( We recommend stainless steel to help avoid allergic reactions and reduce bacteria) Toys, dog bed, puppy training pads, and any other items you feel you want to make puppy comfortable in their new home. Feeding your puppy Your puppy will be coming home with you eating royal canine small bites puppy food. We recommend transitioning them to royal canine French bulldog puppy food as they get a little bigger or another high grade food. Another option for your puppy is raw feeding. All our adult dogs are raw fed as are the breeder we used and numerous other breeders we know. Raw feeding has numerous benefits touted by supporters such as: Shinier coats Healthier skin (helps with allergies) Cleaner teeth Higher energy levels Smaller stools We’ve found in our experience that putting puppies on a raw diet also greatly helped with potty training as they have fewer stools per day and it is much more solid thAn with kibble. Raw feeding is not for everyone though, especially families with smaller children that may touch puppies food bowls/food due to bacteria such as possibly salmonella. It is also not supported by many vets as they are trained to only promote tested and studied dog foods. Most holistic vets are more knowledgable about raw feeding and more supportive. Do what’s best for your dog and your family when feeding your puppy and if you’d like any information raw feeding please don’t hesitate to ask us and I can give you more resources to look into it. Other tips for your Frenchie Frenchies have thick necks, especially when they older, we recommend switching from a collar to a harness as they grow. This will also help with leash walking. They can be extremely fast, especially when they get the zoomies, take care that they don’t run off when not on a leash. They can be very heat intolerant. French bulldogs are not well adapted to regulate their body heat and do not do well in extremely hot or cold temperatures. They very easily overheat and should never be left in a hot car. Their flat faces do not allow them to pant efficiently, and heat stress can cause their throat to swell. They sink in water due to their top heavy frame and are not good swimmers. They can quickly drown and should wear life jackets when in. Pool or other body of water. They are extremely sociable and love everyone and anybody so be prepared for lots of affection.
